How To Deal With A Mesothelioma Diagnosis

Mesothelioma is a type of cancer which starts in the mesothelium, which are the cells that line the internal organs in the body. If you have been diagnosed with this rare form of cancer, you may feel overwhelmed and scared, both of which are completely normal reactions. However, there are some things you can do help cope with the diagnosis and treatment.

Learn as much as possible about your condition. If possible, bring a friend or family member to your doctor's appointments. Not only can a loved one provide emotional support, he or she can also listen and recall information you may forget.

The Mesothelioma Compensation Claims Time Bomb

If you work with or around asbestos and aren't properly protected, there is a chance that prolonged exposure will leave you vulnerable to developing mesothelioma. Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos. With mesothelioma, malignant cells grow in the mesothelium, which is the protective lining that covers many of the body's most important internal organs. The most common place for this cancer to develop in on the lining of the lungs or on the chest wall, although it can develop elsewhere within the body. Because mesothelioma can be prevented by safety equipment and because it is a work-related illness, compensation claims are a big issue.

The first claim against an asbestos manufacturer was in 1929, although as part of the lawsuit it was agreed to not pursue any further cases. It wasn't until the 1960's that asbestos was officially recognised as the cause of mesothelioma. An article was written in which more than 30 cases of people working with asbestos and suffering from the disease were recorded. Today, many claims are made by employees against employers who have failed to implement strict safety measures, rendering the employer negligent. In the US claims resulting from asbestos lawsuits have now reached into billions of dollars. In the UK claims are less common but the number of lawsuits citing asbestos as the primary cause of mesothelioma is growing steadily.

Mesothelioma Attorneys And How They Can Help

While the term "mesothelioma attorneys" has no meaning in the traditional legal sense, it refers to a law firm that makes a specialty of handling litigation involving victims with the disease known as malignant mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is a rare form of most cancers of the mesothelium, or the protective lining that surrounds many internal organs of the body, particularly the lungs. While not exclusively brought on by a single agent, mesothelioma is most commonly associated with prolonged publicity to the mineral asbestos.

Mesothelioma: The Confusing Relationship With Asbestos

We often see articles and news reports where Mesothelioma and asbestos are discussed as though they are the same thing. In truth, there is a big difference between Mesothelioma and asbestos.

As a society, we tend to generalize terms that we use frequently. I am as guilty of this as anyone. I order a coke every time at a drive through or restaurant. Why is this weird? Well, I use the term to cover the general area of a soda. I do this even though I prefer Pepsi to Coke. In fact, I prefer Dr. Pepper to both of them, but I will still just order a "coke".

Getting A Grasp Of Peritoneal Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer associated with exposure to asbestos in the workplace or home. There are three variations of the disease and all are aggressive and deadly. In this article, we take a look at peritoneal Mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma is referred to as the "asbestos" cancer because it is a associated with exposure to the toxic substance. The three forms are pleural, pericardial and peritoneal. Pleural refers to cancer in the upper chest area such as around the lungs. Pericardial refers to abnormal growths around the heart area and then there is peritoneal Mesothelioma.

What Radical Mesothelioma Treatments Are Available?

Current radical mesothelioma treatments include chemotherapy treatments, radiation treatments, surgical treatments and experimental therapies and drugs. Research news reports the limited success of present treatments for Mesothelioma.

Mesothelioma research news indicates that traditional treatments viz. single or multi-drug chemotherapy has a response rate of about 20%. Radiation treatments, usually used in conjunction with surgery or chemotherapy treatments can relieve pain and shrink tumors, making breathing easier. However, radiation treatments can also cause severe side effects.

The Basics Of Mesothelioma Cancer

Are you in danger of Mesothelioma Cancer? The short answer is yes.

Asbestos is still widely used and has been used in everything from schools and work places, to appliance lining and insulation, and anywhere a fireproof barrier is needed. Most people do not understand that asbestos is still used in manufacturing many products. The air, drinking water, and even some consumer products still contain small amounts of asbestos. Asbestos fibers are even released into the air from natural deposits in the earth.

The industry feels justified in their use of asbestos because it is only dangerous after it breaks down and is released into the air. Wear and deterioration of asbestos products is the primary way to release fibers into the air.

How Green Tea And Mesothelioma Connected

Do you know that green tea and mesothelioma is very related each other?. As said first "mesothelioma is the dieases while green tea is the cure". Let's exposed this situation.

Mesothelioma
Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos. Mesothelioma happen inside the body and cannot detect while it growth. The sign and the symptom of mesothelioma usual in shortness of breath, cough, and pain in the chest due to an accumulation of fluid in the pleural space (outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall) which are often called symptoms of pleural mesothelioma. While most mesothelioma cause many factor how cancer grow. Mesothelioma also effect at weight loss, which occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity), the heart.

New Mesothelioma Treatment Found Among Skin Cancer Creams

A group of scientists in Australia have discovered a new potential treatment for mesothelioma cancer victims with the application of two treatments normally reserved for skin cancer patients.

During several tests conducted on laboratory mice with advanced mesothelioma tumors, a skin cancer cream known as Imiquimod was combined with an anti-cancer drug, antiCD40. The two were applied to the mesothelioma mice and, according to researchers, 50 percent of the mice receiving the treatment therapy went into remission following treatment.

Mesothelioma Can Lie Dormant For Many Years

Mesothelioma is a relatively rare cancer that affects the lining around the heart, lungs and abdominal cavities which is called the mesothelium.

Mesothelioma is primarily caused by chronic exposure to asbestos or asbestos-related products.

When asbestos fibers enter the body, by either breathing in the tiny asbestos fibers or by swallowing them, they can cause healthy cells to mutate into cancer. There is currently no known cure for malignant mesothelioma.

California Man Awarded $7.5M In Mesothelioma Case

A man diagnosed with mesothelioma earlier this year will receive a $7.5 million settlement against 11 defendants that reportedly made, supplied or distributed the asbestos-containing products he handled and was exposed to in the workplace, according to a story in the Times-Herald. Robert Hilt of Vallejo, Calif., is 64. It is believed he developed mesothelioma during his work as a marine machinist.

The case was heard in San Francisco Superior Court last month. The Times-Herald reports that two weeks into the case, the last of the defendants settled out of court. It is believed the settlement is the richest in California history, particularly for a person of Hilt’s age, the paper reports.

According to the Times-Herald, it is believed that Hilt was exposed to asbestos at a series of jobs in the San Francisco area beginning in 1963 and continuing through 1972, during which he was employed as a janitor and later as a machinist in two shipyards, where he worked on submarines. Following his stint in the shipyards, Hilt worked for the U.S. Mint in San Francisco until 2004. He and his wife, Geraldine, have lived in Vallejo for about 20 years.

Survival Rates For Mesothelioma Patients

When a patient learns of a mesothelioma diagnosis, the questions that often follow may concern typical survival rates for mesothelioma patients. In general, approximately 10 percent of mesothelioma patients will live for at least five years after they are diagnosed with the cancer. According to medical research, the average survival for a mesothelioma patient is approximately four to 18 months after diagnosis.

How Do You Get Malignant Mesothelioma?

Mesothelioma is caused by asbestos exposure. Asbestos, once regarded as a miracle mineral, was popular due its lightweight but tough characteristics as well as for its heat-resistant properties. This naturally occurring mineral was used in many commercial and consumer products, from construction materials such as cement, roofing shingles and insulation, to consumer and industrial applications such as hair dryers, automobile brake pads and pipe insulation.

What Is The Difference Between Pleural Mesothelioma And Peritoneal Mesothelioma?

Malignant mesothelioma is a disease in which a cancerous tumor grows on the mesothelium - the sac lining the internal body cavities. The specific type of mesothelioma is named for the tissue where the cancer started. Pleural mesothelioma starts in the chest, in the pleura that surrounds the lungs (outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall). It makes up about 70% of mesothelioma cases. Peritoneal mesothelioma starts in the lining of the abdominal cavity.

The Major Cause Of Malignant Mesothelioma

Working with asbestos is the major risk factor for mesothelioma. In the United States, asbestos is the major cause of malignant mesothelioma and has been considered "indisputably" associated with the development of mesothelioma. Indeed, the relationship between asbestos and mesothelioma is so strong that many consider mesothelioma a “signal” or “sentinel” tumor. A history of asbestos exposure exists in most cases. However, mesothelioma has been reported in some individuals without any known exposure to asbestos. In rare cases, mesothelioma has also been associated with irradiation, intrapleural thorium dioxide (Thorotrast), and inhalation of other fibrous silicates, such as erionite. Some studies suggest that simian virus 40 (SV40) may act as a cofactor in the development of mesothelioma.

What Is Mesothelioma???

What is Mesothelioma?? Mesothelioma, more precisely malignant mesothelioma, is a rare form of cancer that develops from the protective lining that covers many of the body's internal organs, the mesothelium. It is usually caused by exposure to asbestos.

Its most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and internal chest wall), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity), the heart, the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart) or tunica vaginalis.
